Description and Applications:

AWF-51 is an agglomerated aluminum-basic flux with a number of metallurgical behaviors which can be used in AC or DC welding of low carbon, low alloy mild steel. Low silicon pick-up and a slight manganese pick-up are typical and therefore can be used with a low Mn electrode. Slag removal is excellent for butt and fillet (horizontal) welding at high speed along with a smooth weld bead and low porosities. The amount of diffusible hydrogen and oxygen deposited in the weld metal is small. Therefore the weld has excellent toughness at low temperatures. It is a versatile flux with excellent operating characteristics in a variety of general fabrication applications.

Typical applications included: single and multiple pass, steel with heavy scale or rust, fillet and butt welds.
